This is a unique course designed to give our learners the opportunity to experience filmmaking or acting across 3 continents and achieve a full UK university degree at the end of the third year.  This pathway is suitable for Hispanic students who have a basic command of the English Language but speak Spanish as their first language, as well as English speaking students.

You will start your journey in Guadalajara, Mexico, where we will prepare you for international studies and the pathway of your choice.  Over the first nine months,  you will build a solid foundation in your chosen pathway. 

For students who do not speak English as their first language, you will also have the opportunity to study an English course alongside your course to obtain a B2 English qualification, required to study in the UK.  The first year will be taught in English and Spanish but all assignments will be submitted in English.  At the end of your first year, you will achieve a level 4 certificate and B2 English language certificate.

For year 2, you will travel to Dubai, UAE where you will spend the next nine months at our Jumeirah campus to further develop your skills. At the end of year 2, you will achieve a level 5 Diploma.

For your final year, you will return to London to join the Top-Up BA (Hon’s) in Film and Performing Arts Practices  This is a practical, hands-on course that builds upon the skills you developed in your previous year.

 

What you will learn

Focusing on practical, technique-centered learning, which includes acting, directing screenwriting and professional skills,  you will have the opportunity to write your own roles and make your own short-film projects in this unique performing arts graduate programme.

As a requirement to study in the UK, students who speak Spanish as a first language will have the opportunity to study English for the ILTS qualification during your first year in Mexico.

Please note that all students must be able to communicate independently in English at the time of entry.

All students study common modules in their first year to build the foundation of the study programme.  Hispanic students will also study English to achieve their B2 certificate.

In the final year, students can choose one (double) or two (single) specialist pathways  in either Acting, Directing or Screenwriting.  All students will produce their own film projects and develop advanced skills in film and television practices.

Assessment is via practical creative projects, written reflective reports of your work and research assignments.

HND Frequently Asked Questions
The Higher National Diploma (HND) is an internationally recognised UK qualification that provides specialist vocational learning at levels 4 and 5. HNDs are delivered by universities and colleges, and are considered the equivalent of the first two years of a three-year university degree course. Students can often progress onto the final year of a degree programme to obtain a full B.Sc./B.A. (Hons). The HND in Moving Image allows you to progress onto our Master’s Postgraduate programme in Film, saving you a year over conventional routes.
What days do I need to go in?

Although the HND programme is full-time, we have structured it to allow you to work around your work/life commitments. The course runs two days per week, from 10:30 to 17:30.

Raindance Professional courses run at various times during evenings and weekends.

What is the typical class size?
We aim to restrict class sizes to 15 per group. This allows us to run practical workshops and give all our students on-going hands-on support throughout their learning.
Do you offer accomodation?
We offer an optional relocation package that includes flights, visa costs and your first month’s accommodation at each international destination.  After this, students have options to relocate depending on their requirements.  The packages will be offered during induction and will cost approximately £2,000 per student.
What are the entry requirements?
Students under 21 years should ideally have GCSE English at grade A*-C (grade 9 – 4) and a full Level 3 qualification such as BTEC, A Level or an Access to HE Course. If you have industry experience, we can consider your application on a case-by-case basis.

Students over 21 can apply as mature students providing they can demonstrate the ability (and experience) to study at the appropriate level. Employment history will be advantageous and qualifications taken several years ago will also be taken into account.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment is through a series of assignments including research modules, hands-on practical exercises and group projects.

Units are interlinked to replicate “real world” scenarios and offer the opportunity for students to build a range of skills to maximise employment opportunities.

Where next - what happens after I complete my HND?
Upon successful completion and approval, students can progress onto the Raindance Master’s one-year programme in Film, allowing them to obtain a Masters Degree within 3 years of starting this course.
Where next - what are my job opportunities after Raindance?
Students can enter employment in a wide range of roles within the film industry. Careers include screenwriting, directing, producing, documentary filmmaking or cinematography.
Will I need any special equipment or materials?
Although equipment is provided, we advise you to obtain a laptop computer that meets the requirements to run the Adobe Creative Suite. If you don’t have a laptop computer, talk to us before making your purchase — Raindance may be able to supply you with one at a discounted price!
